  1. GIIPSY Activities STG-3 to STG 4 Ken Jezek Katy Farness Byrd Polar Research Center, The Ohio State University DLR’s TerraSAR-X Acquisition: Recovery Glacier Tributary Ice Stream Oct 2008 – Jan 2009

  2. GIIPSY Accomplishments • Participation in DLR SAR Workshop • Mission Planning Assistance for TerraSAR X Measurements over Antarctica South of 80° • Advice given for RADARSAT 2 Acquisitions of Antarctica • Participation in International Polar Day Webinar (Europe and North America) including assistance with Agency press releases • Presentation to Permafrost Task Force at December AGU • GIIPSY Poster at AGU • Preparation of a Data Processing Strategy Document Proposed Acquisition and Partition of Ice Streams south of 80º S TerraSAR-X

  3. Draft Data Processing Strategy • In the spirit of the IPY data acquisition phase, data processing strategy utilizes the shared resources of the international space agencies to effectively and economically process the voluminous and diverse data set. • Accomplishable if the agencies can focus on specific and well defined themes. • Objective is to identify the most important and unique data products from the IPY data set. Selection criteria include that the products have high scientific value, be applicable for use by policy makers and be generally exciting to the public.

  4. Elements of the Plan • Seek concurrence on the plan from the STG members who will be responsible for securing resources for processing their own contributed data sets (STG members). • Data fusion into seamless products including development of data fusion protocols and procedures for assuring data product quality. Must include the capability for any interested members of the science community to understand all algorithms and to perform validation activities (STG and GIIPSY). Identify the key science objectives and the associated data products (GIIPSY) SSM/I ICE CONCENTRATION Jan 9, 2009
