  2. Conditional Mood • Indicates a conditional state that will cause something else to happen (something has to happen before something else can happen) • Often marked by the words • If • May, Might • Can, Could • Will, Would

  3. Examples of Conditional Mood • "The bomb might explode if I jiggle that switch." • If I had enough money, I would travel around the world. • We’ll come help you move if we can borrow a truck.

  4. Make These Sentences Conditional • I need more time to travel. • Ex: If I had more time, I would travel. • I ate too much so I am full. • Ex: If I eat too much, I will be full. • I am not athletic so I do not play football. • If I was athletic, I would play football.

  5. Subjunctive Mood • Expresses a wish, a suggestion or a condition that is contrary to fact, hypothetical, not real or doubtful. • Often marked by the words • I wish • If I were • If I had • It must be • Would have • It may be

  6. Examples of Subjunctive Mood • I wish it were summer. • If only the weather were this reliable. • If that had failed, he would have urged that the matter be resolved in a family court.

  7. Make These Sentences Subjunctive • I’m not you so I’m not going to mention the trip. • Ex: If I were you, I wouldn’t mention the trip. • There is dessert with dinner. • Ex: I wish there was dessert with dinner. • I am not sure if it is true or false. • Ex: It could be true or it could be false.
