Get Ready to Read • How can different generations be resources? • Even though Noah is not yet an adult, do you think he still needs supervision or a caretaker? • How are the residents of Century Village dependent on one another? Are you dependent on other people? Tell on whom and in what ways.

  2. Get Ready to Read • Amazing Words • Domiciles– another word for home. • We read about the domiciles at Century Village. Does the author include any context clues that help me understand this word? • Whose domicile does Noah stay in during his visit to Century Village? • Where is your domicile? Describe it. • Biological – connected by a direct genetic relationship. • The child looked like his biological father. They had similar green eyes. • Who are your biological family members?

  3. Get Ready to Read How-to Text Where have you come across teach that was meant to teach you something? How-to texts give you step by step instructions. Give step-by-step instructions on how to make a PB&J sandwich.

  4. Read and Comprehend • Turn to page 210-211. • Read Be a Family Historian • How do historians use interview skills? • What are some question you could ask a family member of another generation? • How will you decide the order of the information presented in your family history? • How have events caused changed in the lives of your relatives (cause and effect review).

  5. Read and Comprehend Vocabulary Antonyms My grandfather says that it takes fortitude to overcome an obstacle, whereas weakness will get you nowhere. What is the antonym for fortitude in this sentence? What does this fortitude mean? My mother says that the highway sign was undetectable, but I noticed it immediately. What is the antonym for undetectable? What is the meaning of undetectable? If we look for contrasts or antonyms, we can figure out the meaning of unknown vocabulary.

  6. Language Arts Negatives You’re not no superhero If you’re not no superhero, then you must be a superhero. FIXED: You’re not a superhero. If you have two negatives in the same clause, they undo one another. Fix the following sentences. You can’t never stop me. I don’t want nobody to get hurt. I don’t know nothing about a robbery. What are the contractions in those sentences? What words were they shortening?

  7. Language Arts Spelling Practice Practice spelling out loud with a partner. Or Spell the words with your finger.

  8. Language Arts Writing a Review Think about a movie or book you have recently read/seen. Write a review describing it and tell whether you found the story, characters, and plot to be effective or enjoyable. Finish writing your rough draft. Have the person sitting next to you read your rough draft. Give/ write down comments. Revise and edit rough draft. Begin writing final draft.
