"Photos bring back memories and memories bring back feelings." - This is the reason why most of us are much attached to old photos as they bring back sweet memories to enable cherish them again and again. Till recent past, when we saw an old battered photo, we all wished that if there was a way it could be made good. Now, new digital technology can do wonders to bring back old photos to their original being.

  3. Old photos are repaired by specialists for image discoloration or for the image sticking to the glass or stained or water damaged, faded or torn. They also take up work relating to removal of a particular person from a group shot. They first scan them and assess images for color balance, density, contrast, composition, orientation and damage. They do the work on scanned copies of original photographs, and hence the original remains unchanged. Even if you think some images are beyond repair, even they can be restored. If an eye is missing in the image, it can be copied from the other eye and restored to its normalcy. If some pictorial information is missing in one image it can be filled by taking it out from another image of the same subject matter.

  4. It is purely technical expertise of manipulating the digital software with sensibility and artistic touch. If an image is badly damaged nothing much could be done about it, but other aspects of this image can be enhanced and sharpening can improve the image to some extent. They also take up colorizing works to offer tinting and color to enhance the image's color. They also handle poster projects to restore images and create designs for use on books, posters, web and public events. They do photo enlargement work for reproduction. Yet, another nightmarish photo restoration is heavily patterned paper.

  5. It is interesting to note that with digital imaging software, you can do basic level of photo retouching and restoration yourself. Experts suggest the following little tips to achieve the basic effect in their order of application. • The image top border needs to be parallel to your horizon. • Unnecessary background needs to be cut out. • Color tint has to be adjusted to color saturation. • Contrast of black and white needs to be expanded. • Finally, image sharpening is done.

  6. There is no limit to digital editing, photo repair and restoration. Advanced digital manipulation and production of complex images can combine layers and text of the old photos to bring them to their original condition. All old photos of black and white, color, hand tinted and sepia-toned can be taken up for restoration.
