Babies • Stay with mother for 6 or 7 years • Babies cling to their mothers hair while she swings through the trees • When they are born they are about 1 foot tall.
How They Adapt to Their Environment?Physical Adaptations • Long arms that help them swing through the trees really fast • Legs are shorter than their arms so when they swing they don’t get in their way • Their thumbs are short so they can swing more easily. • Their feet look the same as their hands so that they can stand on the branches.
How do they Act?Behavioral Adaptations • They build nests and they curl up in a ball so that they won’t fall out of the tree. • They swing from tree to tree so that they can travel farther and faster • They will fight with each other to get food. Such as grabbing bananas from other apes. • To protect themselves from humans they make scary noises and show their sharp teeth.
Physiological Adaptations • Sharp set of teeth to break and eat nuts • Big mouth to hold food • Really strong muscles in their arms so they can swing • Very good eyesight. They can see far so they know where to get food or see predators.
