  2. Political issues/Political leaders • During the 1960s, we were fighting in the Vietnam War. The draft was used to round up our soldiers. • John F. Kennedy was president during this time period. He was involved in the civil rights movement, which also occurred at that time. • Martin Luther King Jr. helped stop segregation.   3. Economy Cost of Products During the 1960’s the economy was great! It was the U.S’s longest interrupted period of expansion. Business was booming. Coca Cola took over the world as an extremely large production. • Alarm clock: $1.99 • Scooters $4.90 • Apples: $0.49 for 3 lbs • Bacon: $0.79 per lb • New house: $12,700 • Gallon of gas: $.25

  4. Culture • In the 1960’s the top TV show was the Bugs Bunny Show, and Bewitched. The top music artists were the Beetles , The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley , and The Who. The top movies were Mary Poppins , West Side Story , To Kill A Mockingbird, and The Jungle Book.

  5. Fashion and Fads • Women in the 60’s wore mini skirts, and anything with peace signs, flowers, and tie die. Some fads were going to diners and jukeboxes. Some women even wore go-go boots!

  6. Slang • In the 60’s cat meant guy, Book meant leave the area , crash meant to go to bed.

  7. Interesting Facts • Some interesting facts from the 60s were, Miss America was Linda Mead, and To Kill A Mocking Bird was a very famous read.
