  3. What is IPS? • VWCC Tech Prep Consortium pilot project • Census of employers within the VWCC Service Region • Census of employers within the Roanoke MSA • Employers outside both who’ve hired Tech Prep completers

  4. Demonstration: Employer Information • IPS can categorize employers in a number of ways: • By industry and sub-industry • By school division • By city or county • By zip code • By employer name

  5. Demonstration: Reports • IPS can automatically generate reports. Some examples include: • Industrial profile by city or county • Industrial profile by school division • List of employers by school division

  6. The Career and Technical Education Reporting System • IPS derived from CTERS follow-up • CTERS collects and reports Perkins data • Respondents identify and give permission to contact employers • Employer contact information is validated by localities • Virginia employer census used for other industrial profile research

  7. How IPS Was Developed • Database of secondary Virginia CTE program completers • Database of all employers in Virginia • Identified by employer name and address • Programming was created to sort and search by industry, sub-industry, school division, city and county, zip code, and employer name

  9. What IPS Demonstrates • Numerous educational organizations can benefit from follow-up data • The benefit of developing practical tools from follow-up data • The use of technology in data-driven decision-making

  10. Uses of IPS • If deployed statewide, IPS could be used in the following ways: • Meet and exceed state and Federal reporting requirements • State and local program planning • State-level research or program evaluation • Practical applications (local administrators and community college staff)

Practical Applications of Follow-up Data • Use current follow-up data to validate future follow-up data • Improve response rates • Assist students with post-graduation and co-op job placement • Contact employers to gauge training and employment needs • Attempt to predict local employment trends within certain CTE service or program areas
