  17. Stopped the Etruscans from crossing the Tiber river and starting war with the Romans. He ordered his fellow citizens to demolish the bridge so that the Etruscans could not cross into the city. His shield blocked many spears thrown at him. Horatius Cocles

  18. He was a Roman Noble who was picked to kill the king of the Etruscans. He arrived at the Etruscan camp on pay day. He realized then that he could not just ask someone who the king was so he drew his sword and slewed the kings scribe. Guards grabbed him and took him to the king and told the king that he was here to kill him. With that threat the king was going to burn Mucius in the fire. Mucius stated that the man’s body is nothing so he put his hand in the fire. With this action the king was disturbed and set him free. When Mucius arrived back at Rome he was rewarded because of his bravery. Mucius Scaevola

Cloelia • She was one of the many girls captured. • She was influenced by Marcuis and his bravery so because of this she led a group of girls across the Tiber River and into the Roman City. • Porsenna wanted her back with the Etruscans so he honored her and told her that she could choose which hostages she came home with. • Porsenna called her deed greater than Cocles and Mucius. • She returned and in her honor a statue was built of a girl seated on a horse.

  20. Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus • He was a Roman citizen who was known for things other than being a patriots and military leader. • The consul decided that Cincinnatus should be the dictator because he was a fine citizen who was best qualified for the position. • The consul went and told him the news and he agreed to the part. • The next day he organized a meeting to in the city and explained how dangerous it was to be in the army. • He then ordered his army to meet at Campus Martius and to bring there necessities with them. • When they arrived at Mt. Aligidus Cincinnatus and his men shouted as the dug a trench and surrounded their enemy. • The enemy surrendered and once Cincinnatus returned home he resigned as dictator.
