The INQA Demographic Change Consultant Training initiative, led by Hilke Berkel from the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), aims to equip consultants with the knowledge to address demographic shifts in the workforce. This program targets the needs of older employees and emphasizes creating healthy, competitive job environments. Through strategic partnerships, training modules, and research dissemination, INQA promotes awareness of quality work conditions, aiding businesses in adapting to an aging workforce while enhancing productivity and employee wellbeing.

Qualification of Demographic Change Consultants • Subproject of “DemoKomp - Competence for the Demographic Change” • Project period: May - December 2005 • Pilot region: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania • Aim: Qualification of volunteers and consultants from Chambers of Crafts to support and consult SME concerning the effects of demographic change • Activity: Qualification/training and coaching during the “on-road test” • Sustainability: Promoting qualification of representatives from INQA-Partner organisations and others

Training Modules, e.g. • causes, consequences, facts and figures • theories on ageing (e.g. competence model) • skills and abilities of ageing workers • personnel policy and corporate culture • life-long learning, qualification and knowledge transfer • occupational safety, job design and work organisation • workplace health promotion • measures for analysis and intervention • regional and branch-specific basic conditions • consulting approaches and • networking of (local) partners
Results of the Project • 15 consultants have been trained • Ministry for Social Affairs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania now finances the work of the volunteers who got trained for the demographic change consulting • 80 enterprises asked for a presentation • 5 enterprises received consultation during the project • Follow-up project funded by ESF and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of North Rhine- Westphalia (2005-2007) training of >120 Demographic Change Consultants
Perspectives • Large German health insurance companies get part of their employees trained • Federation of Industrial Accident Insurance Funds promotes the training and considers getting own employees trained as well • Some Federal States consider similar model programme • Foundation of a national Demographic Change Consultant Association
