2. Basic Functions of home Garden classified into: • The relation between the house and its entrance(road or street): • Public (in view of neighbours & passers-by), • Private (entertainment, recreation) • Utility/service areas (storage, garbage cans, generator) • Primary functions of landscape are divided into: • front yard (public), • side yard (depends) & • back yard (private).

3. Basic Functions classified into: • Seasons : • winter garden • or summer garden • House elements: • Roof garden • Entrance garden • courtyard garden • Window garden • Wall garden

4. Elements of Home Gardens • Boundaries(fence such as “steel or brick or wooden fence”, trees,,,,,) • Entrance and Gates • Functions(,study bed, breakfast, children area,,,,,) • Driveways: • Main walkway • Secondary walkway • Third walkways • Structure(fountain, garage,,,,,) • Trees( ever green, shrubs,,,,,)

8. Front Yard • Major components: • Curb appeal is how the buildings looks from the rood either driving by or walking increase the value of property

Front Yard • Framing the Building an approach uses the landscape as a boundary/frame Done by planting large trees or shrubs on both sides to focus the observer’s attention • Funnelling effect draw attention to the front door by planting larger items on outside while placing progressively smaller plants closer to the door.. Funnelling Effect

10. Front Yard • Hiding the Entrance Avoid tall planting that screen the front door The front door of a building should be easy to find

11. Front Yard • Approach :Landscape helps tie the building to the ground and blend it into the surroundings Balance : Plants help to balancethe structure with the landscape and soften the sharp corners.

Front Yard • Defined Borders defined space focusing on only on the front separating landscape by the drive ways “a sense of disconnection” Beds & Plantings help define the area and add visual interest.. the bed simply pulling out into the yard several feet… The bed may include trees, shrubs or simply ground cover to help better define the areas

Front Yard-Entry Walk • Effective entry walks using a wide opening & proper route to the front door + unique material ( expansion with flagstone) for flooring providing safety and comfort • Steps, materials, width + landscaping make all this entry interesting • A wide, sweeping entry is simple but effective, both visually and functionally.. • The walk path does not necessarily need to be straight between 2 points
