The basics of choosing tiles will be according to the perception of person staying inside. Some them go for generalised tiles for the flooring in all rooms and some of them have got a customised plan for each and every room. 2. Area of Application: The area of application can be defined as the place or room where the tiles are being applied like Hall, Bedroom, Washroom, Kitchen Platform, Wall Tiles on Kitchen, Parking etc., Generally, Vitrified tiles which are more durable and can with stand heavy traffic are best suitable for indoor applications. It will depend on the person whether to go with same colour and finish of the tiles or different for each room. Hall or Drawing Room: For drawing room, go for abrasion resistant tiles, whose colour design and surface will not fade for a long time. What tile you finally use depends on the design and colour scheme or interior designing of your Hall. Make sure they are laid properly and the grout is good to withstand. Please prefer for adequate thickness and make sure the tiles are waterproof. Wooden Finish Tiles and 3D Tiles are some of the new modern tiles being used in the present days to give more elegant look to the House. Bed Room: For bedrooms one should use tiles that are not too bright but make your home look warm and inviting. Wooden finish, ceramic tiles, natural stone tiles are some good options, however the colour and type of the tiles completely depends on the Owner of the building or the interior designer of the house. Make sure they are laid properly and the grout is good to withstand. Please prefer for adequate thickness and make sure the tiles are waterproof. Kitchen: Generally, kitchen contains two different types of tiles 1. Kitchen Platform. 2. Kitchen Walls. Kitchen Platform: The platform of the kitchen needs to be clean and dry. Here instead of concentrating on attractiveness, it is preferable to go for Stone (Granite) tiles or Concrete Surfacing that can be easily cleaned and are stain free. Kitchen walls: These tiles are also called as Kitchen Dado Tiles. You can choose either ceramic or porcelain tiles as they do not absorb stain and are non-porous. These tiles should be stain resistant, Heat resistant and the grout used here should not lose its properties because of the transfer of the heat during cooking. Bath Rooms: Light coloured tiles will be best as bathroom tiles as light tones will be the most flattering for your space. The tiles used in Bathroom should be of slip resistant and Water Proof tiles. The Dado tiles used for walls in the bathroom can be arranged as per the design which can be as per the choice of the owner. 2/3

  3. Parking Tiles: Generally, the parking tiles should have better strength in load carrying than their look. Their elegance is not at all important than their slip resistance. Generally, Paver Blocks or Chip flooring is used as parking tiles. Size of the Room: The size of the room is calculated and the exact number of tiles required can be calculated. Number of Tiles required =Total Area of the room / Area of Single Tile. Area of Room = L X B = 3.5 m X 4.0 m = 14 m2. Area of Single tile = L X B = 600 mm X 600 mm = 0.6 m X 0.6 m = 0.36 m2. Number of Tiles = Total area of room / Area of Single Tile. = 14.0 / 0.36 = 38.88 ~ 39 Tiles. It is always advisable to take at least 5% extra tiles just in case if any of the installed gets damaged, these extra 5% can be used for replacement. Good Grouting: Use of good tile grout is necessary to keep tiles intact with the slab and this will also enable the correct levelling of the tiles. In traditional ways, the levelling is done by the help of sand then the cement mortar is used as binder between the tile and the sand level. In present days, the tile grouts are becoming popular which are acting as a replacement to Cement Mortar.
