  1. Duke Silicon Valley: Building and Sustaining a Successful Enterprise DSV was one of the most life changing and impactful experiences that I have had at Duke. The opportunity to study in Silicon Valley and visit the most cutting edge companies and hear words of wisdom from some of the most successful leaders was invaluable. As a history and public policy major I had no clear sense of what industry I wanted to go into but after this summer, I now know that the tech industry is exactly where I want to end up. It is a culture that is futuristic, solving huge problems, and directly impacting the world and disrupting industries. It is a place that excites me and inspires me and I know that if I end up in Silicon Valley after school I will be happy.

  2. Wanted to learn how to build a company from startup • Wanted to gain exposure to the tech industry and be in Silicon Valley • Wanted to hear from successful leaders and see how they got to where they are today • Explore possible career options

  3. Passion-most of the people left • To not act out of fear or fear failure-it happens • Build a network-relationships are key • Open to opportunities and change • Know yourself and know future partners and people and what types of people you work with best • make sure you are solving a problem that people care about

  4. Learned about myself • Prior I had no clear idea what industry I wanted to be in • Silicon Valley excited me more than any other industry I had previously been exposed to • Solving problems with immediate effects & creating positive impact • Futuristic & cutting-edge
