  18. Mary became pregnant by way of the Holy Spirit.

  19. We spoke of the importance of the virgin birth and how sin is passed down through the father.

  20. We talked about the seed of woman and asked, “What will you do with the God-man?”

  21. Joseph is overwhelmed and certainly in need of a word from the Lord.

  22. Now, let’s jump into part three!

  25. Understanding the Hebraic Betrothal process.

  26. Betrothal: a mutual promise or contract for future marriage.

  27. The Process It could take a while for a son to be ready for marriage. (Job security, maturity, strong support system, righteous living, etc.)

  28. Step One Having already spoken to the potential bride’s father, the groom’s father and the groom himself would knock on the door of her family home.

  30. Step One The opening of the door was the first sign that she was interested in moving forward with the betrothal process.

  32. Step Two Before dinner is served and the details of the marriage contract are thoroughly discussed, a glass of wine is poured.

  33. By drinking first, the groom declares his love for the bride and that his intentions are pure.

  34. By drinking second, the bride declares her love for the groom and that her intentions are pure.

  35. This is forever remembered as their very first kiss.

  37. Step Three They have dinner together and all of the details of the Ketuba are worked out and agreed upon.

  38. Step Three During dinner they discuss their family history, how they first met, what each person will bring to the marriage, and agree to embrace the entire family.

  41. Step Four Everything that was agreed upon was written down and signed by two witnesses.

  42. 2 Corinthians 13:1 …Every fact is to be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

  43. Step Four The written agreement would remain with the bride as proof of the promise.
