Prevention & Treatment for HIV-Affected Adolescents in Resource-Constrained Settings

This program, led by NICHD, aims to conduct research on behavioral, microbicidal, prophylactic, therapeutic, and vaccine modalities for HIV-infected and at-risk adolescents in resource-constrained settings. The goal is to achieve viral suppression and decrease the rate of HIV infection in youth.

Mission: • To conduct both independent and collaborative research that explores promising behavioral, microbicidal, prophylactic, therapeutic, and vaccine modalities in HIV-infected and at-risk adolescents, ages 12 through 24 years, in the United States. • Overall goals of the ATN are to achieve viral suppression for youth diagnosed with HIV, and to decrease the rate of HIV infection in youth. • Three U19 Research Programs/Leadership Hubs • CARES – comprehensive, community-based strategies (UCLA) • iTech – leverages innovative technology to improve adolescent health (UNC/Emory) • Scale It Up – effectiveness-implementation research to enhance self-management (FSU) • One U24 Coordinating Center (UNC) • NICHD, NIDA, NIMH, NIMHD, and OAR
