  2. Charles Grandison Finney • He was one of the most famous preachers in the era. • He inspired emotional religious faiths by speaking in a very dramatic way. • He had a lot of influence over the religious people of this time.

  3. The Second Great Awakening • Preachers of the 2nd Great Awakening did not practice 18th century Calvinistic beliefs. • In New England, the renewed interest in religion inspired a wave of social activism.

  4. African American Church • During the Second Great Awakening Christianity was brought upon many enslaved African Americans • The belief was that all people were under the same God (Whites and Blacks) • In the south Blacks were segregated to different pews. • The slaves interpreted the bible in the same way except they thought of it more as a promise for freedom then a religion.
