  2. Versus Americans Britain 1775-1783 On September,3,1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed by the Americans and Great Britain. Which was later ratified in June 4, 1784

  3. Major Causes • Proclamation of 1763 prohibited settlers from moving into Indian territory but the Americans rebelled. • The Boston Massacre: March 5,1770 • American rebels were shot at the town of Boston • The IntolerableActs limited the rights of the colonists.

  4. EthanAllen Born: 1738 Died: 1789 Ethan Allen’s main goal in life was to gain independence for Vermont. Ethan Allen led a group called the “Green Mountain Boys” to stop the oppressive New York forces He and General Arnold took over fort Ticonderoga by sneaking in and forcing the British to give it to them. Thus winning the fort for America. Later on a during campaign in Montreal, Ethan Allen was captured, thus ending his part in the Revolution.

  5. Joseph Galloway Born 1731 Died 1803 Joseph was part of the first Continental Congress but he stayed loyal to the king. In December 1766 he accompanied General Howe in the capture of Philadelphia. Later he was appointed superintendent of police. After the war he studied religion in England.

  6. Battle of Bunker Hill • American soldiers were alerted that the British were planning an attack on Boston peninsula so the Americans moved to the close by Bunker Hill. • General Prescott brought 1,200 soldiers to fortify nearby Breed Hill. • When dawn came the British were stunned to find out that Breed Hill was occupied. • There were 828 casualties on the British side and 305 on the American. • After this battle both sides realized that the war would take many battles.

  7. Life On the Home Front • Life changed for the 13 colonies because the war had taken people away from their families. Also the acts were running people out of business. People’s towns were getting taken over by the British.

  8. The Treaty Of Paris • Signed in Paris, France by America, Great Britain, Spain, France and the Netherlands on September 3, 1783. Later ratified on June 4, 1784. • The treaty discussed America’s independence and boundaries in the West.

  9. Major Effects • Both sides needed large quantities of supplies. • Continentals became near worthless • Proclamation line diminished • There was a national debt • Some slaves were set free in he North • America felt good about beating Britain • Property rights became looser
