  2. Agenda 2017 Every Child a Graduate, College and Career Ready • What and how should kids learn? • How do we know if they have learned it? • How do we ensure kids have highly effective teachers and schools? • How should we pay for schools?

  3. Standards & Instruction • Science Standards - The final, public draft will be available in early January, 2013 • Social Studies Standards - Work at the national level has halted. DPI is currently discussing options for WI • Career & Technical Education - New WI standards are due to be released Fall, 2013 http://standards.dpi.wi.gov/stn_ccss

Assessments and Data Systems • PALS • Mid-Year screening window • January 7th - February 1st • Mid-Year materials now available to download • Online course available: Using PALS-K Data to Drive Instruction • Which data can be used to identify struggling students • How to use the diagnostic data to plan instruction • Which tools are designed for progress monitoring http://www.palswisconsin.info/

  6. Assessments and Data Systems • PALS DPI Budget Request • Provide funding to phase in the PALS assessment by adding pupils in grades 4K-2

  7. Assessments and Data Systems • Smarter Balanced Assessment Pilot Test • Grades 3-11 • Purpose of the pilot is field test items. Assessments and Data Systems • Smarter Balanced and ACT Suite DPI Budget Request • Provide funding to schools to implement ACT Suite and Next Generation Assessments • Fully fund WKCE in FY 14 • Implement SMARTER/Balanced and Dynamic Learning assessments in FY 15 • Replace Science and Social Studies portions of WKCE in FY 15 • Administer ACT Suite: EXPLORE, PLAN,ACT, & WorkKeys in FY 15

  10. Assessments and Data Systems • Statewide School Information System (SSIS) • Vendor to be selected in December, 2012 • January-February, 2013 first group of schools to begin implementation • Districts will have 5 years to migrate data

Effective Teachers & Schools • The Developmental Pilot phase is currently underway. 94 school districts piloting the three components of the system: • Teacher Practice • Principal Practice • Student Learning Objectives (SLOs for teachers). To get on the SLO pilot waiting list, contact: eeteam@dpi.wi.gov

  13. Effective Teachers & Schools School Learning Objectives (SLOs for principals) are scheduled to be piloted during spring 2013. Next year, additional pilots will be available
