  4. READING VERY IMPORTANT Reading is very important and we stress this everyday in the classroom.

  5. READ EVERY NIGHT • We are asking the kids to read 15-20 minutes nightly.

  6. READING • When we read from stories in our class reading book, we are targeting certain comprehension skills from the story. These include: author’s purpose, cause/effect, compare/contrast/drawing conclusions, fact/opinions, main ideas and details, sequence, and character- setting- plot.

  7. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION • When parents ask me : “ What can I do at home to help my child with reading?” • My answer is - Have your child read to you orally and also read silently. Then ask them comprehension questions such as: who, what, when, where, and why. • Sample questions to ask include: Tell me about the characters. What’s happening in the story? What do you think will happen next? Where is the story taking place?

  8. READ TO THEM • The fourth grade teachers are reading to our classes everyday to encourage them to enjoy reading. Reading should be something they enjoy. There are many great fourth grade level books. We will provide you with a list if requested. • Choose books with topics they are interested in and let them see you enjoy reading a book as well.
