  1. Game trailer research Troy Marten

  2. What is a game trailer? A game trailer is usually a 3 to 4 minute trailer for video games of any genre. Game trailers can be done in any way, from Live action actors, CGI characters, Game play from the finished product, and some trailers even have use all three, such as Halo 4.

  3. How are game trailers created? Trailers for video games are usually mainly CGI or actual game play. They take out cut scenes from the game and edit them together, and with music. Others use living actors. If companies are confident that their game will sell well, they first launch a teaser campaign. If successful, they begin to launch the real trailer, such as Halo 4: Halo 4 Teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deGwykkr2z8 Halo 4 official: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG6mmCF8gk8

  4. What is their purpose? The purpose of a game trailer is to advertise and market a new video game. Here is a successful trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzKbIE7IM2o This trailer of Mass effect 3 uses action and destruction to grab the attention of the viewer. The graphic effects also grab the viewer’s attention.

  5. Where/How are they normally shown? Game trailers can be anywhere. From things such as Magazines, bonuses in other games, Posters everywhere, on TV and the internet. TV usually has shorter Trailers compared to the Internet, but just enough to get the viewer interested.

  6. Are they targeted to a particular audience, gender, age, etc? Most trailers are usually pointed towards teenage boys aged 14-20., since most gamers are males around that age. Games aged 3-9 are usually targeted to both girls and boys, featuring a variety of colours and styles.

  7. Do they fit into certain genre’s and styles? It depends on what genre the game trailer is aiming for. FPS’s usually have a lot of action and one-liners, which fits the action genre perfectly. Pretty much all trailers are action based. Understandable, as showing anything else wouldn’t be very gripping and make audiences hesitate to buy it.

  8. How do you design a game trailer To know what kind of audience you’re targeting. To know what your audience will be interested in. like Explosions and good graphics for males, and different colors for females. Show high quality gameplay. Tell people it’s the same level quality as the actual game. Focus on one main aspect of the game. Make your trailer into almost story like. Give it a beginning, middle and end.

  9. How do you design a trailer part 2 Don’t give to much information away. Too much, and the viewer can easily figure out what the game is about. Tease the viewer into that they’re only seen a simple glimpse of the real game.
