  4. The treatment… • Chemotherapy killed off patient’s stem cells • Stem Cell Transplant • Stem Cells Transplanted were missing a receptor that is usually used by HIV to infect cells

  5. What happened? T cell HIV

  6. Is this a cure? • This occurred in 2007 • As of now, patient has no signs of HIV infection, even after T cells repopulated body • Treatment was extremely dangerous, may not be practical
