  1. Monday, 10-21-13 Bellwork • If 4.98 x 108were written in standard notation, how many zeros would the number contain? • 7 • 8 • 5 • 6

  2. There are over 300,000,000 people in the United States. Each person has an average of 6,000,000,000 cells in his or her body. Multiply these numbers to find out about how many human cells there are in the United States!

  3. There are an average of 40,000,000,000 stars in a normal galaxy, and there are over 320,000,000,000 known galaxies in our universe. About how many total stars are there in the universe?

  4. Light travels at approximately 3.0 x 108 m/sec. How far does light travel in one week?

  5. Assume that there are 20,000 runners in the New York City Marathon. Each runner runs a distance of 26 miles. If you add together the total number of miles for all runners, how many times around the globe would the marathon runners have gone? Consider the circumference of the Earth to be 2.5 x 104 miles.

  6. Work It • Scavenger Hunt • Each group must have a paper where they are showing work. The other group member can have a piece of paper with the list (from 1-10) • This will be a participation grade!

  7. Group Work • Group work procedures: • Only talk with your group • Only talk about your work • Only talk in 12 inch voices

  8. Ms. Lonsdale grades your notebook on Fridays. However, you will also receive a participation grade the day that you work. 100% = following all 3 procedures at all times. 75% = received a warning that at least one procedure was not being followed. 50% = received a second warning that procedure was not being followed or sufficient effort is not being given. 25% = A third warning, or any disruptive behavior. 0% = Any further warnings. This will also result in automatic behavior training.

  9. Studying – Notebooks and Puzzles • First, make sure both of your notebooks are complete. • Then, complete the Scientific Exponents puzzle. • Don’t forget that your weekly homework is due on Friday!

  10. Tuesday, 10-22-13 Bellwork

  11. Test Day! • When you finish – Put your bubble sheet in the bin on the left (once you have scanned it), put your test sheet in the bin on the right. • If you finish early, work on the extra credit or silently read an AR book. • If you finish extra credit – Put it in the bin on the right.

  12. Gradecam • GradeCam Demonstration! • This is how we’re going to grade tests from now on.
