  28. You are going to make your own pop culture homage to a famous painting. • Find a famous painting that you like. • Before you even read what it is about, try to interpret it for yourself. Lesson 1: Art History Research

  29. Questions to ask yourself when interpreting: • What title would you give to this painting? What made you decide on that title? • What do you think is going on in this picture? How did you arrive at that idea? • What do you think this painting is about? How did you come up that idea? • Pretend you are inside this painting.   31.  It was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, a Basque Country village in northern Spain, by German and Italian warplanes at the order of the Spanish Nationalist forces on 26 April 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. • Guernica shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. You are going to make your own pop culture homage to a famous painting. • Write down on a sheet of lined paper: • The name of the artist • The period the artist worked in (impressionist, renaissance, etc) • The media that the artist used (acrylic paint, oil paint, sculpture, etc) • A brief description of the painting or artwork Lesson 1: Art History Research

  34. Think of a character/s that you would like to put into your painting. You have two choices for this assignment: A: Recreate the painting as it is and add your character/s to that painting in a way that makes sense with the original content.
