  1. Warm-up #2 • Write a paragraph describing the Constitutional Convention. Use details for your textbook reading or “Summer in Philly.”

  2. Framers of The Constitution Bio-Posters • You will and you desk partner will work together. • Each pair will get a half sheet of paper describing one of the framers of the Constitution who were present at the Philadelphia Convention (Constitutional Convention).

  3. Framers of The Constitution Bio-Posters • You’ll use this information along with what you find in History Alive or http://teachingamericanhistory.org/convention/delegates/to make a poster that includes the following: • Picture/Drawing of the delegate • Birth and death date • Age at Constitutional Convention • Brief Bio (include occupations) • Beliefs on key issues (state representation, how to count slaves, how to elect president) • Role at Convention • Did they sign the Constitution? • One interesting fact

  4. Framers of The Constitution Bio-Posters • George Washington • Alive from: 1721-1799 • Age at Convention: 55 • Brief bio: 2nd of six children, did not have a formal education. Started out as a land surveyor, and then became a major in the militia. Because of his leadership in the French and Indian War, he was given charge of VA’s militia. Appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, where he led the Americans to victory at Yorktown in 1781. Went back to his farm after the Treaty of Paris was signed. Presided over the Constitutional Convention and was chosen to be president in 1788. Set many precedents in office. Died 1799 after refusing a third term. • Beliefs on key issues: did not state his opinion much at the convention. • Role at Convention: Was the presider over the Convention. Maintained order when things got too tense. He made sure that everybody followed the rules of secrecy. • Did he sign the Constitution? Yes. • Interesting Fact: Loved mashed sweet potatoes with coconut.
