New York • New York is the most populous city in the United States •  New York City consists of five boroughs which were consolidated in 1898:  • The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. With a 2010 United States Census population of 8,175,133 •  the city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world.

  3. Location • New York City is located in the northeasternUnited States, in southeastern New York State, approximately halfway between Washington, D.C. and Boston. • The Hudson River flows through the Hudson Valley into New York Bay

  4. History • New York was colonisted of the Dutch Republic, and was named New Amsterdam • The city and its surrounds came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England

  5. Transportation • Mass transit in New York City, most of which runs 24 hours a day • The New York City Subway is the largest rapid transit system in the world • The area is served by three major airports, John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia

Washington, D.C. • Washington, D.C. is the capital city of USA • A new capital city named after George Washington was founded in 1791 to the east of the preexisting port of Georgetown • Washington, D.C., had a resident population of 601,723 in 2010, the 26th most populous city in the country • The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States

Location • The city is located on the east of country. • The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of nearly 5.6 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country. • Location of Washington, D.C., in the United States and in relation to the states of Maryland and Virginia
