  2. Brief Description of the Proposed Action • What?: To unite and mobilize the Indonesian population in Kalimantan Sulawesi and Sumatra by using ICT to rise against illegal, excessive, and unfair logging practices • Why?: To mitigate the negative impact of logging that greatly exacerbate the effect of natural disasters. • How?: By developing a website and complementary application that would allow importers of Indonesian lumber to access a database that provides information from the producing company, local news, legal reports and civilian commentary on the logging company.

  3. Objectives & Expected Results • Firstly, decrease in illegal logging by 10% by 2015 • Secondly, improve international awareness about logging and it’s adverse effects, especially those related to natural disasters using the means of the web page and application by 45% in 2015 • Thirdly, to regulate the activities of large logging companies, increase their positive contributions to the society and environment  and lobby for legal sanctions against companies violating certain environmental and societal laws.

  4. Effects of logging • Deforestation causes the risk of flooding and subsequently increases its impact • Floods have an impact on the individual, community, social, economic, and environmental levels • Loss of human life, damage to property, loss of livestock and crops, emergence of waterborne diseases, economic activities stagnated and infrastructure disrupted

  5. Actors involved… • Importers of lumber  access to information about the origins of the product • Companies, Organizations, Communities  platform to share resources and build a more cohesive database • Individuals  interested in these issues, information, and resources to help get involved

  6. Actors involved cont’d… • Partner Organizations: • Friends of the National Parks Foundation (FNPF); a conservation organization • Starling Resources; works with companies to ensure corporate social responsibility
