History • Founded in 1923 by Albert, Sam, Harry and Jack Warner • Produced and distributed the first ever ‘talkie’ an audio-synchronized film • In 1918, the company produced its first-ever full-length feature film called My Four Years and made over $1 million • Expanded distributing and purchasing films in Pennsylvania and Virginia to California • The Warner brothers founded the Duquesne Amusement & Supply company to distribute films (based in Pittsburgh). • Warner Bros, the 3rd oldest Hollywood studio (after Paramount and Universal, both founded in 1912), was founded by Jewish immigrants from Poland, originally based on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Films • By the 1930s Warner Brothers was producing about 100 motion pictures a year and controlled 360 theatres in the US  and more than 400 abroad. • In the early 1930s the company started the craze for Gangster genre with Little Caesar (1931), The Public Enemy (1931), and Scarface (1932), and throughout the ’30s it presented films featuring such stars as James Cagney and Edward G Robinson  in gangster roles.  • Warner Brothers also expanded into television with the premiere of the western series Cheyenne in 1955.  • Warner Brothers have released 7,537 films since it opening in 1915 • Large variety and range of movies from several genres e.g action, mystery, romantic and drama
