  1. objective SWBAT Identify lab equipment used in science in order to describe the use of each as well as following procedures to make measures and use each equipment properly.

  2. Science Can Be fun if you use the science equipment properly

  3. Test tubes and rack • Test tubes hold substances. • Rack holds test tubes http://oeydms.weebly.com/uploads/8/9/5/5/8955843science_lab_equipment_2012-13.pptx

  4. goggles • Eye Protection.

  5. Metric ruler Used to measure objects in centimeters and millimeters

  6. Petri dish • A shallow lidded dish used to culture cells or contain small organisms.

  7. Plastic Magnifying lens • Makes an object look bigger.

  8. beakers • Used for mixing, holding, and estimating liquid volume. Used to heat water on a hot plate.

  9. Droppers/Pipettes • A dropper is used to transfer a small volume of liquid • On top of each dropper is a “bulb”

  10. Graduated cylinders Made of Plastic and Glass • Accurately measuring liquid volume.

  11. forceps • Hinged instrument used for grasping and holding small objects.

  12. Other Lab equipment

  13. Triple Beam Balance • Used to measure the mass of an solid object. • Units: grams (g).

  14. Hot Plate

  15. funnel • Pouring substances without spilling into another object. (Ex. Flask)

  16. Erlenmeyer flask • Storing and heating liquids.

  17. Stirring rods • Stir solutions(liquids) in a Beaker. • Can be made of Plastic and Glass.

  18. thermometer • Measure the temperature of water and other liquids. • In Science, temperature is measured in Celsius Degrees.

  19. Rubber stopper • Used to close off narrow-mouthed things filled with liquids like test tubes and flasks.
