  2. Problem • Penrose Library (PPLD) is a large library in downtown Colorado Springs. • Talented staff • Large space • Under-utilized after school

  3. Solution Outreach and resulting Program: P.A.S.S. Penrose After School Specials

  4. The Chicken or the Egg? • Are children not swarming Penrose Library because there are no programs for them? • Are there no children’s programs at the Penrose Library because it is not swarmed by children?

  5. Just the Facts Program offerings at Penrose Irregular programs may occur

Other Factors • Downtown parking is not free • Security risks • Different libraries meet different needs • Available Resources • Wonderful Children’s Staff • Lots of space including a program room • Lots of books! • Penrose has the potential to provide programming to lots of school-age children

Summer Outreach • Farmer’s Markets • Park Events • Provide P.A.S.S. bookmarks to all kids • School Outreach • Focus on 5 nearest schools • Contact librarians and principals in August • Visit Schools August/September • Provide P.A.S.S.port to all students • Outreach Budget • Supplies $135 • Staff Time (based on events attended)
