  1. The Naked RoommateBy: Harlan Cohen A presentation brought to you courtesy of: Kristin Morrison

  2. Harlan Cohen • Harlan grew up in Chicago and was the youngest of three brothers. • His first year of college was a complete mess, and when he transferred he was able to get a fresh start. • Got his start writing for the Indiana University newspaper. • He is one of the most widely read and respected syndicated advice columnist for people in their teens and twenties (and he is the only male). • The author of the Help Me, Harlan! column.

  3. Now on to the presentation you've all been waiting for, right??

  4. I need everyone to follow these steps… Sit back in your chair. Close your eyes. Remember how you felt before you came to college.

  5. Did you wish someone would have been able to help you?? Maybe then you wouldn’t have been so lost eh?

  6. Too bad you didn’t know Harlan!

  7. Harlan helps you with things such arrival on campus, residence hall life, roommates (all sorts of them), friends, getting involved on campus, Greek life, the classroom, dating, sex, drinking, drugs, money, and everything else you might could think of.

  8. Option One You ignore the problem, so you might constantly walk in with your roommate lounging on the futon naked. Option Two You talk to your roommate and find some type of common ground…certain days and times that you stay away so that they can get their liberation. THE NAKED ROOMMATE

  9. Some of the different scenarios and tips Harlan addresses… • Tip # 13—The Ugly Side of Residential Life • Tip #20—The Your Girlfriend/Boyfriend Doesn’t Live Here Roommate • Tip #28—High School Friends, Cows, and Cats • Tip #42—How to Just Pass • Tip # 55—The college Hook Up • Tip # 68—The One-Night Stand • Tip #86—Just Don’t Accidentally Die • Tip #97—The Freshman 15…or, umm, 45

  10. Everything you do in college is your decision. No matter how important or unimportant the decision seems, it is your decision and you reap the consequences.

  11. You are big boys and girls now. You have to learn to deal with things by yourself. You have to take responsibility for your actions—which includes your grades! D- A+

  12. Everything that happens to you, you make it happen. If you make new friends, it’s because you got off your lazy butt and did so. If you make good grades, it’s because you went to class and studied.

  13. When things get hard (and believe me, they will) you have to keep on going. Push through and figure it out—when you’ve hit rock bottom the only way to go is up!

  14. JUST DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO!!!!

  15. Success:  To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.  This is to have succeeded!  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
