  1. Welcome Class Of 2013 Testing

  2. SAT Reasoning& SAT Subject Tests • SAT Reasoning Test (critical reading, math and writing) -A MUST if you are considering college. • SAT Subject Tests -Take if required by colleges of interest. -One-hour tests; if required, 2 or 3 are needed. -Check with individual colleges.

  3. The spring of Junior year is the recommended time to take the SAT Reasoning Test and, if needed, SAT Subject Tests. *NOTE- Sequencing is your responsibility: decide which tests to take …..when …..where • If considering Early Decision or Early Action all required testing should be completed by November of senior year.

  4. SAT Test Dates & Deadlines • March 10th (registration deadline February 10th) *GHS is NOT a test site. • May 5th (registration deadline April 6th) *GHS is a test site. • June 2nd (registration deadline May 8th) *GHS is a test site. (Registration deadlines are approximately one month before the test date.)

  5. SAT Registration • Online(www.collegeboard.org) • Establish and use a personal account (called “My Organizer”). • This gives you an immediate test center assignment and confirmation of your registration. *Note: Those students who register on-line will not receive an admission ticket in the mail. They MUST print their confirmation and admission ticket page from the web when they register! Special Note for Students with Disabilities: You can register online by providing your eligibility code, which is printed on the Eligibility Approval Letter you received from the College Board. 2. Mail • Required if you wish to pay by check or money order. • Requires students with disabilities to include copy of Eligibility Approval Letter.

  6. Important Info on SAT • Register online or by mail. • Know Deadlines: Late & Standby fees are EXPENSIVE and “standby” does not guarantee that you will be allowed to test. • SAT scores are not reported on the GHS transcript. You must send scores from College Board to each college to which you are applying. • Fee waivers are available based on family income. Please see your school counselor.

  7. SAT Score Choice • SAT Score - Reporting Policy • For SAT - can choose to send scores by test date. • For Subject Tests - can choose to send scores by individual test. • Cost: • 4 “Free” school reports with each registration. • Pay per college if done after testing.

  8. Score Choice is an optional feature • Colleges set their own test requirement policies. These vary from college to college. Some colleges may require all scores to be reported. Students are encouraged to follow the different score reporting requirements of each college to which they apply. • If students do not choose the score choice option, all scores will be sent to the schools that have been identified by the student. • Students should still feel comfortable sending all scores, since most colleges consider a student’s best combination of scores.

  9. Go to www.collegeboard.orgfor information on SAT registration, sending scores, and practice questions. • We recommend that all juniors explore and become familiar with the information available on this website.

  10. ACT • Replaces SAT Reasoning at all colleges/universities. • Replaces SAT Subject Test at some colleges/universities. • Tests students on English, math, reading, and science with an optional writing section. • Not all colleges require the writing portion so students must check directly with the colleges they are considering.

  11. Important Info on ACT • Students electing to take the ACT should take the test during the spring of their junior year. • Spring test dates are: April 14th (registration deadline March 9th) June 9th(registration deadline May 4th) • GHS is not an ACT test site (closest sites are East Hartford High School, Conard, and Hall High School.) • Visit www.actstudent.org for registration and practice test questions. See your counselor for a practice ACT test booklet.
