Graduation Requirements for Class of 2013 • Grade Point Average 2.0 • *Grade 10 FCAT – Math and Reading *Pass • English 4 credits • Math (one must be Algebra I, or a series of courses equivalent to Algebra I, or a higher-level math course) 4 credits • Science 3 credits • Social Studies • World History – 1 credit • American History – 1 credit • Economics – ½ credit • American Government – ½ credit 3 credits • Fine Arts 1 credit • HOPE 1 credit • Elective 8 credits • Total Number of Credits Required for Graduation 24 Credits • **Foreign Language 2 consecutive • *Pass or obtain passing scores on a standardized test that is concordant with passing scores on the FCAT (SAT or ACT). • **Not required for graduation, but required for State University admission and some scholarships. Foreign language credits can meet elective credit requirement.

  3. FCAT Passing Score • Reading- 300 scale score FCAT, or 18 on ACT or 420 on SAT • Math- 300 scale score FCAT, or 15 on ACT or 340 SAT

  5. FCAT Passing Score- 2014 • Reading- 241 scale score FCAT, or 18 on ACT or 420 on SAT

  6. DIPLOMAS A student who meets all requirements prescribed in s. 1003.429(1) and (6), F.S., shall be awarded a standard diploma in a form prescribed by the State Board of Education. For a student to participate in graduation activities, the Lake County School Board requires that students: • 1) Be in good academic standing, and • 2) Be in good behavioral standing, and • 3) Have paid any outstanding fees. • Students must meet all graduation credit requirements and the 2.0 GPA requirement to receive a regular high school diploma and to participate in graduation exercises. Students completing graduation requirements under an early graduation option will be included in that year’s graduation class. Diplomas will be distributed at commencement ceremonies at the end of the school year

Certificate of Completion A student will receive a Certificate of Completion if required course work is completed but • 1) the FCAT testing requirement has not been met and the 2.0 grade point average required to graduate has not been met. • 2) the 2.0 grade point average required to graduate has not been met and the FCAT testing requirement has been met (W08). • 3) the FCAT testing requirement has not been met and the 2.0 grade point average requirement has been met .

Credit Recovery • You can take courses on FLVS to recover credits or for grade forgiveness- See your counselor for approval • We also have E2020- credit recovery here at SLHS- see your counselor for approval • There is also a program called PLATO – see Mr. Maitland or Mrs. Goletz for information

Tests for College-Universities • The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. • The ACT Plus Writing includes the four subject area tests plus a 30 minute Writing Test. ACT results are accepted by all 4-year colleges and universities in the US. The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approx. 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing). Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (plus 30 minutes if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing). • Please visit www.actstudent.org to register for the ACT

  12. More tests for College -University • Students and parents often ask why it is important to take the SAT. Reasons include: • •All colleges accept the SAT as an objective measurement of students’ college readiness. • •Taking the SAT gives students access to scholarship opportunities. • •Most colleges require an admissions test like the SAT. • • • The SAT provides students with the most comprehensive performance feedback of any admission test. • Please visit www.collegeboard.com to register for the SAT.

  13. Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarship Program Student will qualify for a Bright Futures Scholarship program by meeting requirements established by legislative action. To access the most current and accurate Bright Futures Scholarship information, including legislative updates, eligibility criteria and status, and award information, and to begin the Florida Financial Aid Application process, visit the Office of Student Financial Assistance website at www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org/SSFAD/bf/acadrequire.htm.

  14. Community Service Hours • Please complete a community service form if you have done any volunteer community service hours-form online or available in guidance • Most scholarships require community service hours- Bright Futures requires 100 for FAS, 75 for FMS, and 30 for GSV

  15. Transcripts • If you need a transcript for postsecondary schools or scholarships: • Please complete a transcript request form available on the school website or from the guidance office

  16. Senior meetings • We will have senior meetings in September/October: for a brief credit check and information update • We will have final senior meetings in the spring with you and your parents to see if you are on track for graduation
