  1. Hounslow Highways PFI & Network 2020 Golden Mile Transport Group 24 October 2012

  2. What transport outcomes do we want to achieve? Our approved transport strategy (Local Implementation Plan for Transport 2011-2031) sets out our vision for the transport network over next 20yrs – in line with the Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy. In short.. • Targets for increasing walking, public transport and (particularly) cycling trips. • Targets for improving road safety for all users. • Better streetscapes, smoother traffic flow.

  3. Hounslow Highway’s PFI Programme • £100m investment in carriageway and footway over five years, with duty to maintain for a further 20. • Comprehensive renewal of the footway, carriageway and street lighting. • Opportunities to ‘automatically’ upgrade elements of the network that are non-compliant (e.g. drop kerbs, pinch points etc). • Further opportunity to dovetail asset renewal with more substantial improvement works funded by TfL/s106 etc – reducing disruption and saving money.

  4. Network 2020 Programme Resurfacing & Footway Reconstruction (Hounslow Highways PFI) Network 2020 Improvements/Changes to Street Alignments (LB Hounslow)

  5. Network 2020 – Year 1 (2013) First year will be particularly challenging: • Transition year – Hounslow Highways programme only provided mid-2012 – still subject to minor changes. • Little time to design and secure approval for improvements to streets due for renewal early 2013. • Some designs are already in process, or even approved, but this particular street may not be scheduled for asset renewal for some years.

  6. Current Programme (CW/FW) CW FW

  7. Network 2020 – Year 1 (2013) Consultation (commenced 2011)

  8. Network 2020 Consultation – In Figures 575 individual comments 245 individual sites 64 identified respondents (by email), many more not identified 35 on TfL roads (TLRN) (14%) 38 relating to off-road routes (Greenways) (16%) 37 relating to CSH9 (15%) 135 relating to other sites (55%)

  9. Thoughts on consultation process… • Far more successful than anticipated. • Good to be able to quantify (and portray) extent of feeling about an issue. • ‘Many eyes’ – helped unearth schemes and rationales for improvements which may not have occurred to officers. • Provides further contact with interested parties – not just ‘the usual suspects’. • BUT…Huge challenge to meet aspiration!

  10. 2013/14 Draft Network 2020 Programme (subject to change in line with PFI) Cycle Superhighway 9
