Anion Gap

Anion Gap. Anion Gap. Represents unmeasured anions in plasma such as, lactate, ketoacids , phosphate, and other organic anions. It is used mainly in diagnosing different causes of metabolic acidosis. Anion Gap. An increase in the AG is most often due to increase in unmeasured anions

  1. Anion Gap

  2. Anion Gap • Represents unmeasured anions in plasma such as, lactate, ketoacids, phosphate, and other organic anions. • It is used mainly in diagnosing different causes of metabolic acidosis

  3. Anion Gap • An increase in the AG is most often due to increase in unmeasured anions • Thus, the presence of a high anion gap should result in a search for conditions that lead an excess of these substances.

  4. Anion Gap • Plasma anion gap = ( [Na+]) - ( [Cl-]+[HCO3-] ) = 138.0 – (108.0 + 10.0) = 20meq/L NV = 8 -16 meq/L
