  2. ABOUT ME! • 2nd year at OPA, 2nd year in 4th grade • Graduated from UCLA with BS in psychobiology • Graduated from Cal State Fullerton with MS in Education and received my multiple subject credential • Hobbies: • Photography • Reading • Eating

  3. 4th GRADE STANDARDS • Language Arts: organizational patterns of text, Greek and Latin root words, understanding and utilizing various reference resources. • Writing: personal narrative, summary, response to literature, and report writing • Social Studies: California history • Science: rock cycle, geological changes, electricity, ecosystems, and the food web • Math: multi-digit multiplication, long division, understanding fractions and decimals

CONSEQUENCES Better Choices: __ Warning __ Red Slip • 1st Infraction: Verbal warning • Your child will receive a verbal warning stamp in their agenda. • 2nd Infraction: Making Better Choices Slip (red slip. • This is to be completed, signed, and returned the following school day. Your child will also receive a “Red Slip” stamp in their agenda. • 3rd Infraction: Parent contacted • 4th Infraction: Office referral

HOW IS BEHAVIOR CALCULATED? • At the start of each trimester, students start with 100% in behavior. • Each verbal warning lowers the student’s behavior grade by 2%. • A red slip lowers the behavior grade by 3%. • A phone call home (for behavior purposes) will lower behavior grade by 5%. • An office referral automatically lowers behavior grade to 60% • To earn an A in behavior, students must be at or above90%.

  8. HOMEWORK • Homework folder, binder, and agenda • Homework due at start of the day (8:05 AM) • 60-90 minutes of homework • 15-20 minutes of reading each night

  14. OPA World Language Objective: Students will Acquire Fluency In at Least One Foreign Language

  15. 2013 World Language ModelIncreasing Fluency One Year at a Time To achieve this objective, instruction time must increase, effective teachers must be employed, as well as continuation of target language. READING COMPREHENSION TIPS • Encourage your child to read non-fiction, expository texts. • Find their interest and select books based on that (e.g., sharks, dinosaurs, California history, rocks) • Ask them questions! • Compare and contrast • Cause and effect • Fact and opinion • Multiple step instructions • Share in their interests!
