  1. -6th January- • Epiphany Day • This day our children get their Christmas presents. • The Three Wise Men bring presents to the Spanish children. So, Im afraid…. There is No Santa Claus in Spain!! • -30th January- • We celebrate the International School Day for Peace and Non Violence. Every school host activities about the importance of fighting for peace in the world!

  2. -Mid- February • CARNIVAL WEEK! • People from all cities in Spain choose a cool outfit and pretend to be a different thing or person. • Santa Cruz de Tenerife has the most famous Carnival in Spain and second in the world!

  3. -19th March- • St. Joseph or Father’s Day • This day children give presents to their daddys. Most of the time, they elaborate such presents in school. • This Day is also Saint Joseph’s Day, father of Jesus. • -8th March- • International Working Women Day • This day we commemorate the most famous women in history who did important things for society.

  4. -Begining or Mid April- • Holy Week • This week we celebrate the death, passion and resurrection of Jesus Christ with big parades around the city. • This is the main attraction in Lorca, our city. • The most famous parade takes place in Sevilla • -23rd April- • International Book Day • This day we do several activities to commemorate the death of Miguel de Cervantes, the most famous Spanish writer ever! • The different activities are aimed to promote reading . • Don Quijote is read on this Day

  5. -1st May- • Worker’s Day • The most important thing about this day is that NOBODY WORKS! ☺ So, there is nothing special for us to do apart from enjoy a short holidays to commemorate people who work in all different places. • All jobs are equally respectful! • -First Sunday of May- • Mother’s Day • On this day, children give presents to their mothers to let them know how much they love them and how thankful they are for everything. • Most of the presents are usually made in school (hand-made)

  6. -9th June- • Murcia’s Day • On this day, we celebrate the day of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, where Lorca, is located. Spain is divided into 17 autonomous communities. Children in school learn lots of things about the history and story of our Region.

  7. -7th July- • Saint Fermín • This day is a very special day for a town in the North of Spain -Pamplona-. Saint Fermin ,his saint patron, is celebrated just in this town but this celebration is famous all over the world. • They run ahead bulls!! • This is probably the most internationally renowned fiesta in Spain. • Over 1.000.000 people come to watch this festival.

  8. -15th August- • Virgin’s Day • This day has got a religious origin and it is specially celebrated in maritime towns. This day, they took their virgins out for a religious parade and sometimes they even go in little boat in the sea. • Everybody go out that day to watch the parade and they usually have lunch on the beach all together.

  9. -8th September • Virgin’s Day • This day is the day of the Virgin of our city, Lorca. Her name is Virgin of the Huertas (the same name our school which is located next to the church of the virgin). Children and their parents do a pilgrimage to the church, bring flowers to the virgin, perform traditional dances and so on.

  10. -12th October- • Hispanity Day or Colombus Day • This day we celebrate the day that Cristobal Colombus discovered America in 1492. Thanks to him, Spanish is spoken in so many countries all over the world. • This day, children learn things about the story of the discovery of America.

  11. -1st November- • All Saints Day • This day, with catholic origin, celebrates the souls of all people who die believing in heaven. This day, people in Spain, bring flowers to their beloved ones who are buried in cemeteries. • -26th November- • Teacher’s Day • This day, we celebrate the job of teacher and education. Children in school learn about the origin of this day and the importance of having one!! • -23rd November- • Saint Clement’s Day • This day, is the Saint Patron of our city, Lorca. His name is St. Clement and this day is a great celebration for people from Lorca. We eat roasted chestnuts and go up to the castle in a pilgrimage. There is also a great parade about the history of our city and the battle of Moorish and Christians to win our town.

  12. -6th December- • Constitution Day • This day is a holiday to honor de constitution of Spain, is celebrated on the anniversary of the signing. Children learn things about the history of our Constitution. • -22th December- • Christmas Lottery • This day we celebrate the biggest lottery all over the year. Everybody waits for the moment of the final prize eagerly. Illusion is all over Spain. • -24th and 25 December- • Christmas dinner and Christmas Day • This day all family gather to have a great dinner, specially seafood, and enjoy the happiness of family and friends, but remember…. No Christmas presents for us until the 6th of January!! • -31st December- • New year’s Eve • This day apart from gathering with the family, we have a very curious Spanish tradition that every foreigner loves. We eat 12 grapes in the last 12 seconds of the “old year”, if we eat them on time, the new year will be a happy one if not….. Bad luck!
