  1. B.E.S.T.Advisory Meeting March 21, 2019

  2. 2018-2019 Updates Solvay Elementary • Approximately 255 students have achieved 30 hours through BLOCK 3 • Offerings have included before school, after school, weekend and school breaks, including BASCOL. Solvay Middle • Approximately 175 students have achieved 30 hours through BLOCK 3 • Offerings have included after school, weekends and before school. Solvay High • Approximately 90 students have achieved 30 hours through BLOCK 3 • Offerings have included after school, weekends, field trips and academic study table.

  3. Program Requirements • Mid-Year report has been filed. • QSA has just recently been distributed. • State Review was conductedFebruary 14, 2019. • Budget is being reviewed for 2019-2020. • Spring site visits are being scheduled at all sites. • Summer planning is well underway with all programs housed at Solvay Elementary or Solvay High. • Free Breakfast and Lunch program continues this summer.

  4. BLOCK 4 2018-2019 School Year • Last Block begins April 1 and runs through May 31st. • Block is slightly longer due to all the snow days and the last attempt to reach the target. • Block will include more field trips and “one-off” type programs. • All buildings will have opportunities available at additional times including spring break and Saturdays. • Increased Homework Help and Review classes will be a big part of BLOCK 4. • Look for credit recovery opportunities before school ends to help at-risk students.

  5. Summer 2019 – New Grant Year • SMART CAMP and STEM camp (CNY Teaching Center) at Solvay Elementary. • Inquiry U, STEM camp, Band Camp, SUNY ESF week long camp, Honeywell Science Instituteat Solvay Middle (housed at the high school). • Freshman summer school courses (Living Environment, Algebra I, English 9/10 and Fundamentals of Algebra) at Solvay High School. • Additional High School programming include P.E. Repeat, Band Camp, STEM camp, SU Summer Science Institute and SUNY ESF camp. • Advisory Meeting to be held in late August

  6. State Review Feedback • Add advisory information to website (completed) • Increase Professional Development Offerings to staff (discussing) • Alter grant document to reflect practice of NOT contacting parents if a student doesn’t attend on a given day. (will be done for summer) • Add a student to the advisory committee (plan to bring to June meeting) • Have lesson plan include common core connection (summer) • Staff performance evaluation (under discussion)

Next Steps • Finalize all summer programs, registrations etc. • Begin preparing grant paperwork for Summer/Fall • Review QSA data • Finalize 2019-2020 budget • Create programs that will help reach the target • Establish Advisory dates for 2019-2020 • Final Advisory meeting of this year is June 6th @ 11:00 a.m. (Location TBA)
