  1. Mexico By: Payton Sayers Class: Social Teacher Mr. Scribner

  2. How They Dress In Mexico there are 3 main groups of clothing: modern, traditional, & celebration. Modern is like what we where such as jeans, t– shirts, sweaters, shorts, and sneakers. Traditional is earthy and skin material. Women wear long skirts, shoulder capes, and shawls. Men wear trousers, dress shirts, and blanket capes, and special Mexican boots. Celebration includes sombrero, Charro suit, and brightly colored clothes.

  3. National Symbols Some national Symbols of Mexico are the coat of arms, flag, national anthem, bird (Caracara), flower (Dahlia Pinnata), animals (golden eagle & hairless dog), and tree (cypress).

  4. Sports There are very few Mexican sports. They are mostly known for soccer, but also have motocross, wrestling, and softball.

  5.   6. Rituals I have found 3 fairly common Mexican rituals. They have an interesting like for folk music and dancing. A sport many people used to play was called bullfighting. This came from Spain but is now illegal. When a girl turns 15 they have a big celebration of her birthday called a “Quinceanera.”

  7. Religion The ancient religion in Mexico is called Nahua. It is compared to the Egyptian religion because of all the mention of math and astronomy. Most Mexicans are catholic because of a Spaniard who loved it and Mexican’s do celebrate Christmas.

  8. Economy Mexico has a free market economy in the trillion dollar class. It has $1.465 trillion purchasing power parity and is a mixture of modern industry and agriculture. The economy continues to face challenges but is expected to grow in 2010.

  9. Standard of Living Living in Mexico has pluses and minuses. It isn’t the safest country to live in and has crimes like everywhere else. It is country #53 on the HumanDevelopmental Report.

  10. Money The money in Mexico is called “Peso.” They use dollar bills and coins and was the first currency in the world to use a dollar sign ($).

  11. Languages The official language in Mexico is Spanish. Only 7.5% of Mexican’s speak other languages which are all called Amerindian. Some of these languages include Nahuatl, Maya, Zacotec, Otomi, and Mixtec.
