  2. Cause: • Independence Movements In South America • By 1824, most of S. America is liberated from Spain. • Spain asks France, Austria, Prussia, and Russia to help fight off Revolutionary forces in S. America. • Quadruple Alliance

  3. Cause: • America’s new sense of Strength • Army and Navy more powerful • Beat the British TWICE!! • Nationalism

  4. Effect: • President Monroe issues the Monroe Doctrine: • Declares that North and South America were no longer “up for grabs” • Forbids any further colonization……OR ELSE! • Kicker: We didn’t have the military power to enforce this.
