  1. CONCEPT OF SUPPORT OPERATION TAILGATE 64th BSB, 3rd HBCT, 2nd DIV CPT Kyle W. Brown As of 121300APR2010

  2. PURPOSE Provide the 3HBCT Commander with a Concept of Support recommendation for Phase III Stability Operations of Operation Tailgate.

  3. AGENDA • THREAT ANALYSIS • ENY DISPOSITION • WEATHER & TERRAIN • HIGHER UNIT MISSIONS • FRIENDLY UNITS • TASK ORGANIZATION • SUPPORT OPERATIONS • CLASSES OF SUPPLY • MAINTENANCE • COMBAT HEALTH SERVICES • MORTUARY AFFAIRS • TRANSPORTATION • SYNC MATRIX (HANDOUT) • COMMANDER’S GUIDANCE

  4. ENEMY DISPOSITION 2OSC trampled by 1HBCT retired to SE Ariana. Filling shortages for 3OSC Enemy SF Cells and remnants of 2OSC 302nd & 191st MECH BDE were defeated at OBJ CORAL I & II 3OSC is Ariana primary force 4OSC at 22% (70% w/in 90 days)

  5. THREAT ANALYSIS • Enemy has limited capability against logistical convoys. 4th DTG of 2nd OSC: • Ground Maneuver: 11-14% • Indirect Fire Systems: 7% • Rocket Battalions 6-8% • Threats to LOGPACs: IEDs VBIEDs Close Ambushes Suicide Bombers SAF and Mortar Attacks

  6. WEATHER & TERRAIN OVERALL: ATROPIA has a dry subtropical climate, with relatively mild winters and long hot summers. TEMP: Low of 60s (F) – High in low-80s (F). RAIN: Light during the month of April; generally 3-5 days with total rainfall of 20 mm. FOG: At dawn limits visibility to 100 meters, Mid-morning visibility increasing to 6 miles. WINDS: Forecast from North at 10-15 mph, may increase to 15-20 mph MSR / ASR Effect: Roads softened by heavy armored vehicle traffic, precipitation, and low visibility in the morning reduce speeds and increase the likelihood of rollovers.

  7. 2nd Division Mission Mission 2nd DIV attacks 100400APR2010 to seize objectives Coral and Viper and clear AO Python, defeat Arianan forces in zone, maneuver quickly to restore the IB and serve as a deterrent to additional Arianan force deployment into Atropia. O/O pursue Arianan forces across the IB or continue the attack to defeat Arianan forces bypassed in the west or northwest in the 2nd DIV AO. Purpose The purpose of IRONHORSE FURY is to maneuver rapidly from PL Denver to seize objectives CORAL and VIPER and clear AO PYTHON, neutralize Arianan forces and quickly restore the IB.. Key Tasks: 1) Deception plan as we move to attack positions near PL Denver using movement at night and radio/digital message silence, as well as 21st AVN BDE moving utility aircraft to TAA GRANT north and east of 2nd DIV movement routes. 2) Execution of stability and support operations to include civil affairs. 3) Establish FOB early to support future aviation operations. Endstate: 2nd DIV will have a) established hasty defensive positions on the IB, b) be at 80% strength and prepared to either, c) pursue Arian forces across the IB or, d) attack to the west and northwest in the 2nd DIV AO to defeat bypassed Arianan forces in detail.

  8. 3rd HBCT Mission 3rd HBCT conducts stability operations NLT 121300Apr2010 in order to stabilize the local populace in vic CORAL I & CORAL II. Protect the southern flank of 2nd Division. 64th BSB Mission 64th BSB provides continuous logistics and health service support for 3HBCT NLT 121300Apr2010 to include establishing a BSA and EPW/civilian internee collection point on OBJ Coral I vic 38SQJ16537883.
