  1. Target Setting, Assessment, Tracking Pupil Progress. A Guidebook for Parents and Carers (Year 8)

  2. Learning, Respect, Ambition Message to Parents and Carers Good news! We have made some improvements to our monitoring and tracking systems at Croesyceiliog School. To help parents support their son’s/daughter’s progress at Croesyceiliog School, we have produced this basic guide. During the academic year you will receive two progress reviews. The first is in the Autumn term and the second is in the Spring term. A full report in July. They will supply parents with grades for key aspects of learning, as well as current working levels. The information you receive is now in a more user friendly format using colour coding. We are confident that the changes made will help parents to better support their child’s learning and encourage our pupils to attain ambitious targets. We hope you find this guide both informative and useful. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please contact Mrs T Newland-Jones. Mrs T Newland-Jones (Head of Year 8 and Senior Leader KS3) 1

  3. Learning, Respect, Ambition New Report Format Your child’s report is a completed, personalised version of the sample below. 2

  4. Learning, Respect, Ambition The End of Key Stage 3 Minimum Target for each subject has been calculated by an external agency (Fischer Family Trust) for your child on the basis of his/her key stage 2 performance. The level indicated is where we would expect your child to be at the end of year 9. Fischer Family Trust Levels are divided into sub-levels e.g. A means top of level. B means middle of level. C means bottom of level. Many pupils at Croesyceiliog School achieve higher levels than those indicated by the agency. Teachers encourage all their pupils to aim for the highest levels possible. 3

Below minimum target level. Levels are divided into sub-levels e.g. 3+ means top of level. 3 means middle of level. 3- means bottom of level Teachers use a variety of methods to assess current achievement e.g. homework, classwork, tests and assessments. These are combined to give a current working level. 5

  10. Learning, Respect, Ambition What Happens Now? Form tutors, class teachers, Heads of Department and your son’s / daughter’s Head of Year will be monitoring your child’s progress. Form tutors will talk to your child about their progress and set targets for improvement in all areas during termly progress review meetings. The targets agreed will be recorded in your son’s / daughter’s planner. It would be helpful if you could read the improvement targets and discuss the progress report with your child. Subject teachers will track and monitor your child’s progress through classwork, homework and assessments. Heads of Department will also put in place appropriate interventions to support your child if needed. Heads of Year will check the ‘bigger picture’. He/she will track your child’s progress carefully across all subjects and implement the most suitable support for your son/daughter. 9
