  1. How a Chiropractor Can Fix Neck Pain Persistent neck pain, whether subsequent to injury or insidious onset, can be distressing and debilitating. If you are suffering from neck pain, acute or chronic, you should visit our chiropractor at Sports Rehab and Wellness for neck pain treatment in Kitchener Waterloo. Not all neck pain is the same, therefore it is important for your chiropractor to perform a thorough history and in-depth physical examination before starting treatment. The physical exam will involve tests to rule out anything sinister (red flags). If it is warranted, the chiropractor may send you for x-rays or refer you to your family physician for further testing. Please note that x-rays are not recommended for each patient. The chiropractor will also assess your posture, range of motion of your neck and check for any restricted movements in your cervical spine. Dr. Dixon will also perform specific orthopedic tests to determine the cause of your neck pain and associated spinal dysfunction.

  2. After the physical examination, the chiropractor will give you a diagnosis explaining the cause of your neck pain. Dr. Dixon, will also explain what treatments he will perform to alleviate your neck pain. Treatments that have been shown to be the most effective for decreasing neck pain include spinal manipulation (neck adjustments) and rehabilitation exercises (same as what a physiotherapist would give). Other therapies for improving neck pain include soft tissue therapy (ART), medical acupuncture, electrotherapy (TENS/IFC) and in some cases shockwave therapy. Recent empirical evidence has shown that there is no difference between whiplash injuries and other non-complicated neck pain. Therefore, the management of whiplash injuries is very similar to neck pain. Even though, whiplash injuries and neck pain treatment is similar, each patient should receive individualized care. Furthermore, as a certified Complete Concussion Management practitioner, Dr. Dixon focuses on complicated whiplash injury patients. If you or someone you know had a whiplash injury, or is experiencing neck pain. Make sure they see someone is up-to-date on best practises and will give them an individualized treatment plan. At Sports Rehab and Wellness, our chiropractor focuses on treating the whole individual and not just the injury. As a chiropractor, Dr. Dixon is also concerned with the impact of an injury on a person’s quality of life. He will take the time to answer any questions you may have and can outline preventative approaches to keep you pain-free.
