Introduction In recent years, there is a drastic increase in the number of mainland pregnant women giving birth in Hong Kong, bringing long term effects on local medical care, social welfare, population policy and education. Hong Kong government has put forward a series of related policies, for example, recruiting additional healthcare staff, setting quota for mainland pregnant women giving birth in Hong Kong, etc. There is a widespread discussion from various sectors of society and people express their views and demands on this issue.
