  1. Vocabulary –Week One Here are the first ten words for your notebook.

Write the word and its definition in your notebook... • Alliteration – The repetition of consonant sounds in a line of verse. • Allusion – Making an indirect reference to something well-known such as a song, poem, a famous book or landmark, a work of art • Benevolent – showing sympathy, understanding or generosity. • Benign – kindness of disposition or manner • Connotation – an idea this is suggested or implied.

Write the word and its definition in your notebook... • Culture – all the knowledge and values shared by a society • Definitely – Without question and beyond doubt • Democracy – a government favored by the people or by their elected representatives. • Denotation – the most direct or specific meaning of a word or expression • Discrimination – unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice.

  4. Vocabulary –Week Two Here are the first ten words for your notebook. Homework-Write a sentence using each word appropriately with respect to parts of speech. (Noun (person, place, thing, idea, Verb (action word), Adjective (describing)…) Use a dictionary or www.dictionary.com to find the etymology of each word. Etymology – Word source, word origin-This is abbreviated at the beginning or end of where the word is defined. Ex.
