What is NGATS? • Emphasis is on “transformation.” • A long term initiative to increase the capacity and efficiency of the nation’s air transportation system. • Aligns the work of seven different agencies – including FAA, NASA, Defense and Commerce – towards a common objective. • Places considerable emphasis on the role of the private sector.

Who we are and how we’re organized? • NEXTGEN and the JPDO were created by Congress in 2003 • The initiative is long term and covers a period of nearly 20 years • Involves seven different agencies and offices • JPDO acts to facilitate and integrate their activities. • There is an unprecedented level of private sector involvement through the NGATS Institute
