  1. PRIMERAS EXPERIENCIAS, CRONOLOGÍA SIGLO XVI • En el Monasterio de Oña (Burgos), Pedro Ponce de León (1509-1584) llevó a cabo la educación de doce niños sordos a quienes enseñó a hablar.

  2. PRIMERAS EXPERIENCIAS, CRONOLOGÍA SIGLO XVII • Juan Pablo Bonet (1579-1633) recoge la metodología de Pedro Ponce de León y publica el libro Reducción de las letras y arte para enseñar a hablar a los mudos.

  3. PRIMERAS EXPERIENCIAS, CRONOLOGÍA SIGLO XVIII • Jacobo Rodríguez Pereira (1715-1780) crea un alfabeto de signos: la Dactilología, para poderse comunicar con una alumna sordomuda. • En 1760 el abad de L’Épée (1712-1789) funda la primera escuela para sordos en París, que más tarde llegaría a ser el Instituto Nacional de Sordomudos. • En 1784, Valentín Haüy (1745-1822) crea la primera institución para ciegos en París, enseñándoles a leer con grandes letras de madera.

  4. PRIMERAS EXPERIENCIAS, CRONOLOGÍA SIGLO XIX • Luís Braille (1806-1852), alumno de Valentín Haüy, inventa el alfabeto que lleva su nombre.
