  3. When to Use Direct Citation • Only when what the author says is better than any way you could word it. • If you can paraphrase (put it into your own words), PARAPHRASE!

  4. Your Turn • Read a selection for five minutes. • Choose an entire sentence to directly cite with parenthetical citation. • “Exact words author wrote” (McNamara 80). • Quote +Citation = Sentence • Period goes at the END of the sentence. • Check your partner’s • Let’s try one more fact. • “Exact words … author wrote” (McNamara 80).
