  7. Physics Fun Fact – VantaBlack • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg2x0L4YAuU

  8. Impulse • Impulse – Average Force multiplied by the amount of time in which it occurs. J = F ∙ ∆t Unit: [N ∙ s] Often referred to as the Impulse of a Force

  10. Momentum • Linear Momentum – The product of an object’s mass and velocity p = mv Unit: [kg ∙ m/s]

  11. Impulse – Momentum Theorem • Impulse is equal to the change in momentum! J = F ∙ ∆t = ∆p = m

  12. Motorcycle Helmets

  13. Conservation of Momentum Momentum Initial = Momentum Final po = pf m1v1o + m2v2o = m1v1f + m2v2f

  14. Collisions

  15. Types of Collisions • Elastic: Objects separate after collision. KE is conserved (∆KE = 0J) • Collision between atoms, Space collision, billiard balls? • Think about no loss in velocity • No heat or sound • Inelastic: Objects separate after collision. KE is NOT conserved (∆KE ≠ 0J) • Bouncing Ball, Car Accident, Boxer’s Punch, etc. • A change in velocity can be observed • Heat and Sound are present • Completely Inelastic: An Inelastic Collision in which the object remain together after they collide. • Car Accident, Train cars connecting Momentum is conserved in all types of collisions

  16. Collisions https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the-worst-collision-of-orbiting-satellites-and-space_us_59406ffee4b04c03fa26166e

  17. Collision Equations Elastic & Inelastic: m1v01 + m2v02 = m1vf1 + m2vf2 Completely Inelastic: m1v01 + m2v02 = (m1+ m2) vf
