  3. Notes • The present tense of regular –ar verbs is formed by dropping the ending –ar of the infinitive and adding the personal endings, -o, -as,-a,- amos, -áis,-an. • The subject pronouns Vd. And Vds. Are usually expressed in Spanish. The other subject pronouns (yo, tú, él, ella, nosotros, vosotros, ellos, ellas) are usually omitted, unless they are needed for clearness or emphasis. • hablo- I Speak • hablan- They speak • Vd.- habla- You speak • ella habla- She speaks • ella y yo hablamos- She and I • The feminine forms of nosotros and vosotros are nosotras and vosotras • tu and vosostros (the familiar forms) are used when addressing close relatives, intimate friends, or small children. In Spanish America, the ustedes form is used instead of vosotros.

  4. Negative Verb Forms • A verb is made negative by placing no in front of it • Maria no habla español Maria does not speak spanish • Yo no bailo el tango I do not dance the tango.

  5. Interrogative Verb Forms • In a statement, the subject usually comes before the verb. In a question (interrogative the subject usually comes after the verb. Vd. contesta correctamente. You answer correctly ¿Contesta Vd. Correctamente? Do you answer correctly? Juan habla inglés. John speaks English ¿Habla Juan inglés? Does John speak English?
