The development of the New UDLR receiver box aims to improve operational efficiency and bandwidth utilization in AI3/SOI.Asia projects. This initiative addresses current issues with existing UDCast boxes, enabling more R&D opportunities and flexible logistics. As satellite resource allocation is limited, it proposes reorganizing transmission partners into research and lifeline categories for better resource distribution. A planned test phase with partners is slated for early 2023, alongside ongoing collaboration with other RENs to optimize technology and support network integration.

Topics • New UDLR receiver box and ULE • Activities and Connectivities with other RENs • Dokodemo SOI Asia • Satellite resource allocation • Jaxa event
New UDLR box & ULE • Current situation • AI3/SOI Asia UDL uses a modified MPE format , not efficient bandwidth utilization • Difficulty on operating UDcast Box • More R&D cannot be implimented • UDbox -> New UDLR box development • Might improve current problems of operation and maintenance, logistic difficulty and downtime • More possibilities of R&D • Cheaper? • More flexible logistics, install and troubleshoot • Development status • Benchmark performance test is OK but need stability and durable test • Documentations, CLI/GUI user interface
New UDLR box & ULE • MPE -> ULE • Improving bandwidth utilization • More standard, more R&D • Issues • Test • Separate research bandwidth for ULE box test • Called for test partners, starting around end-feb to march • tu, unsrat, itc, unsyiah , buet • Logistics • Some distribution hubs or from USM or self-install • Budget • Next actions • Discuss more details in UDL WG • Propose the plan to Directors meeting
Resource allocation • Satellite bandwidth is limited and more Tx partners • Proposal to reorganize Tx partners into 2 categories • Research category for temporary period • Lifeline category (24/7) • Issues • Policy and procedure must be defined and executed efficiently • If there is no TX regularly, can still maintain license? Need to check – per country • Need to discuss more in director meeting and with each partner team
Activities and Connectivities with other RENs • How can we AI3/SOI Asia group work and contribute to other RENs? Tein3, APAN
Activities and Connectivities with other RENs • NREN formation support from experiences in AI3/SOI Asia group members • Technology, content, depends on requests • Tein3 or APAN collaboration • From strong partnership and content from SOI Asia • Thinking about appointing one partner to be our representative and show our status • No formal agreement is expected now
Dokodemo SOI Asia • Anywhere , no limitations of network technologies • Easyto use, no limitations of system compatibility
