  3. What is Ektron?

  4. Ektron is a Content Management System (CMS) • A CMS allows non-technical individuals to create, edit, manage, and publish web content. • Using Ektron allows us to simultaneously maintain professional and consistent site design while allowing many individuals to create content. • Ektron is a web-based application.

  5. Browser Requirements PC Mac • Internet Explorer 7 or higher or • Firefox 2 or higher • Firefox 2 or higher(Safari is not supported) Enable Popups.

  6. Logging in

  7. Normal Login Procedure Type http://www2.seattleu.edu/login.aspx in your web browser’s address bar and hit enter. You will get a pop-up window asking you for your username and password. Use your standard SU credentials. Refresh your browser . Normal Login:http://www2.seattleu.edu/login.aspx

  9. The Silver Bullet Editing Existing HTML Content

  10. Log in to Today’s Practice Site Type http://cmstraining.seattleu.edu/login.aspx in your web browser’s address bar and hit enter. You will get a pop-up window asking you for your username and password. Use your standard SU credentials. Your login page will automatically refresh.   14. Silver bullets indicate areas you can edit. You cannot edit other areas. This combination maintains design consistency while allowing you to easily create and edit pages. The Silver Bullet

  15. The Easy Way to Edit Existing Content

  16. Click on a Department & Find a Silver Bullet

  17. Mouse Over Silver Bullet & Click Edit If your menu does not include Edit, browse to another page until you find one that does.

  18. You edit one content block at a time. Edit

  19. A style set has been designed to make your pages attractive and consistent with the overall site. Style

  21. Save only saves to a temporary server file. Save • Publish or check in to permanently save your work.

  22. Ektron’s Publish, Checkin, and Cancel icons will all check in your work. Closing your browser window will leave your work checked out. Check In Options

  23. Publishing Immediately Changes Content

  24. Try It Out • Apply different styles. • Publish your content and look at your published changes. • Explore other editing possibilities.

  26. Avoid using fonts and formatting outside the set styles. Style

  27. Basic Editing Commands Select All Cut Paste Paste Plain Text Find and Replace Print Undo Redo Spell Check

  28. Pasting Plain Text When copying text from other programs (such as Word) use Paste Plain Text to avoid problems with the way browsers display formatting. Paste from Word may not strip formatting adequately

  34. Creating a Link to an External Site

  37. Quicklinks A Quicklink is an internal link.

  38. Quicklinks Quicklinks are in the “library,” but the library may open to the wrong file type.

  39. Change your file type to Quicklinks and click on the link you want. The link will appear in the URL box. Quicklinks

  40. Remove Link: Right Click on Link or Click Remove Link Icon

  41. Right Click to Change Link (or Click Hyperlink Manger Again)

  50. The Work Area Navigating the Work Area is similar to navigating Outlook. The Work Area may not open in an intuitive place.
